The number of EU Member States participating in the Unitary Patent system will increase to 18.

On May 31, 2024 Romania ratified the Agreement on the Unified Patent Court, UPC, which will enter into force on 1 September 2024. The participating EU Member States are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia and Sweden.
